THE HAMPTONS

The PETERMAN gardens were created to marry the client's love of Japan with the coastal serenity of the East End. Drawing from the client’s deep appreciation for Japanese design, the landscape emphasizes restraint and balance. The result is an elegant interpretation of "less is more," where every stone and plant textures converge to create harmony.

Stone and wooden paths lead through a tranquil pond, its surface reflecting the surrounding greenery in a play of light and shadow. Large, carefully placed boulders anchor the landscape, evoking a sense of permanence, while the soft edges of moss and ornamental grasses invite the eye to rest. The materials—weathered wood, pale stone, and fine gravel—create a harmonious palette that feels at once ancient and contemporary.

The design fosters a deep connection to nature, providing a space for contemplation and retreat, while subtly grounding its Japanese influence within the context of the Hamptons.
