Nestled into the California coastline, JACKSON appears, street-level, to be a modest home. Books shouldn’t be judged by their covers and neither should this compound. Beyond the entry porte cochere, layers unfold into a rather sizable footprint of 25,000 square feet.
Each layer of the home was optimized to capture panoramic seaside views and to create indoor-outdoor spaces that blend seamlessly together. The terraced terrain weaves its way in and out of the home calling into question where spaces begin and end. Meanwhile, the significant glass facade and mostly shallow interior spaces assure that each room is bathed in sunlight.
JACKSON doesn’t compete with the true splendor of its surroundings but rather highlights it in stark contrast. A piece of modern art amongst the rocky cliffs.
